The other day I went to go contemplate in a coffee shop, and I had one of those chance encounters with someone I barely see. It proved frutiful as those meetings always tend to. I was made aware of a show call Friday Night Lights. Apparently it’s a well written show. I wouldn’t know since I have yet to watch it, as a result all the information here is based off of the wikipedia entry on the show.

It’s a show focused on a town that is overly obsessed with their football team in middle America. What interests me though is that it’s on a major network and got tons of internet material distributed for free to compliment the show. The successful strategy adopted by NBC to promote the show has effectively created a loyal fan base – something that every producer wants I believe.

What they did online

Streaming videos such as cast interviews and full episode from the previous week have been available on NBC.com since the series’ inception and in December of 2006
it was announced on March 14, 2007 that the show would be part of an expanded lineup available via MobiTV
NBC also put the shows on the iTunes store
As part of their online push for the show NBC has made the rare move of publishing deleted scenes from each individual episode on their web site. Normally, deleted scenes are held until for an eventual DVD release but NBC/Universal has chosen to make them viewable online for a few of the shows that they produce
